Learn how to permanently fix the crackling audio issue when using Voicemeeter and Discord.

Basically there is a bug when using Voicemeeter as your input device for Discord. It’s strange because the bug is only noticeable when you do a mic test from within Discord (or someone in your voice channel tells you that your mic is popping). There is actually nothing wrong with Voicemeeter… The core problem is coming from the way Windows processes your audio. Let’s fix this once and for all.

Let’s get started.

Step 1: Firstly, we need to open up Task Manager (make sure to run as administrator). Once you have Task Manager open, click on the Details tab and look for a process called audiodg.exe.

Step 2: Now right click on audiodg.exe and select Set priority from the list, then choose High.
Step 3: Confirm this by clicking “Change priority” in the dialog box.
Step 4: Once that is done, you need to right click on audiodg.exe again and select Set affinity from the list.

Step 5: A new box will appear called Processor affinity. Now this is the important part. You need to uncheck <All Processors> and check one CPU only. For example, if you have an 8 core processor, you can check any CPU from CPU 1 to CPU 8 (make sure to only check one CPU). In our case, we will be checking CPU 2. Click OK to confirm.

Step 6: To finish up, we just need to tweak our Discord settings to get the best results. Head over to Discord – User Settings – Voice & Video… Under the Advanced section, disable Noise Suppression and Echo Cancellation, then enable Noise Reduction and Automatic Gain Control.

That’s it! Now you can experience perfect audio when using Voicemeeter and Discord.

Feel free to play around with your Discord settings, but we found the settings mentioned above offer the best quality sound.
